Javier Canabal | DVM

Dr. Javier Canabal is a veterinarian with a focus in endoscopy, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery with 24+ years of experience. This experience has led him to his own mobile surgical practice, FLEXIVET, which is designed to be an extension of services for veterinary centers. Up until August 2022, Dr. Canabal was an associate veterinarian at Knowles Animal Clinic in Miami, Florida for ten years. He was a general surgeon, orthopedic surgeon and cared for patients through well visit consultations.

He has extensive training in surgery from different specialty clinics in New York, Alabama and Florida. Prior to that in 2010, he moved to the United States where he completed a two year long rotating internship in internal/emergency medicine and surgery at Tuskegee University in Alabama. His passion for veterinary medicine has taken him throughout the United States and internationally.

Dr. Javier Canabal received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Agrarian University of Havana, Cuba, graduating with honors in 1998. After graduating he became a member of the Board of Cuban Scientific Council, Orthopedic and Small Animal Surgery Societies. He worked as the head surgeon of an animal clinic in Havana, Cuba for approximately ten years before moving to Jamaica to work for the JSPCA, a registered charity that protects animals from cruelty, neglect, injury and abandonment that also defends animal rights. Currently Dr. Canabal lives in Miami, Florida with his family and spunky feline, Muffin.
